Don't blink! You might just miss this puzzle whiz finishing a Rubik's Cube at lightning speed. Just in case you missed anything, Mayer slows it down in this interview as he shares his inspiration behind solving puzzles.

Two of my friends from home went to Explo last summer and were completely obsessed with it. They wouldn't stop talking about how much fun they had and how much they learned for months, so I knew it was something I wanted to try.

What do I think I'm best at? I'm definitely best at solving Rubik's Cubes and puzzles. My record time is around 45 seconds! I started solving them after I saw my cousin playing with one. I had no idea how she did it. It was so cool, so I asked her to teach me. Once I started I couldn't put it down. I learned everything I could about it and kept practicing until I reached my record time.

At Explo, I'm taking courses in engineering and chemistry. I think my courses represent my interests and teach me how to solve problems. Learning how to build things up and tear things apart teaches you all about how something works. I'm excited to learn all about how things work, because understanding something makes it so much easier to solve things when there are problems.
