This Explo at Wellesley aspiring artist, is the ideal ambassador for the motto, practice makes perfect. As a regular in the art room, you'll find Marnie perfecting her artistic techniques as she works her way towards her dream of becoming a renowned artist.

Art, to me, is getting an idea and throwing it on paper. There's this beautiful quote that really sums up what I mean: "Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes. Art is knowing which ones to keep." My favorite type of art is Manga, which is a type of Japanese cartoon. I like the specific styles and proportions that they use in Manga that help make you feel certain things about a character. Like, the really big eyes in Manga make you think, wow that character is just so cute!

At Explo, I'm doing figure drawing and portraiture courses. I'm learning so much about the face and the proportions of the body, so I'm getting much better at learning how to draw people. I think it's really going to help me grow as an artist, because by learning figure drawing from different perspectives while learning how to draw the body parts in relation to one another, I think my comic-making skills are going to go to the next level.

If I could give any piece of advice to aspiring artists, I would say to practice... a lot! You're going to make a lot of mistakes, but just always do your best and your art will get better every time. Everyone starts out as a beginner, even the most famous painters, and with a lot of practice and hard work, your art will just get so much better.

I really want to be some type of artist when I grow up, so I know that all that I'm learning at Explo is helping me get even closer to my dream.
