Meet John from Maine

John from Maine talks about acting

Ally Marcino

This aspiring actor has really found his niche here at Explo. Not only does he get to act in front of a camera like he dreams to when he's older, but he gets to do that with a community of other young people like himself.

I'm taking Acting and Directing for the Camera. I'm really enjoying this class especially! I love the community we've created in the class, the activities we do, and the fact that we're now in cooperation with the Video Production class. We're making a couple of different films together. Everyone in the class is so nice to each other and no one ever feels left out. Everything is done together — the instructor is really good at bringing people together and making everyone know each other better.

I’ve wanted to be involved with film and acting for a long time. I don't act very much at home, but I act in some plays. I'd prefer to act in front of the camera than on stage. I'm a big movie watcher, so I've been interested in acting for my entire life. I like story-rich films. I don't really have a favorite genre or movie because I have too many that I like. My favorite actor is Leonardo DiCaprio, though. I have seen a lot of his films and I really enjoy his work. But if I could emulate any actor, I would pick Peter Dinklage. I love his work on Game of Thrones and that he's been able to gain such a following because of that role. If I could act in any show or movie, it would definitely be Game of Thrones, probably as Tyrion or Jon Snow. I like acting as those semi-comedic, semi-serious characters. I like a satirical aspect to a character.

Explo is really helping me as an actor. I'm learning new techniques, the different ways films are made, and how the directors control their projects and help produce a great product. I really love it here at Explo. I just love the community and the variety of courses and workshops.
