Jacob shares the impact that Explo has had on his personal and profressional growth over the past three summers.
This is actually my fifth session in three summers at Explo. My favorite course that I’ve taken so far has been the Ethics and Economics of the Stock Market. We played a game throughout the course where we each got a certain amount of money at the start and we had to invest in all of these different stocks. One of the reasons why that class was my favorite was because I won (by a lot), so I’m a little biased. I think this course is really going to help me in my future, because I hope to one day work in the financial field, and getting a head start learning about stocks and the market is going to help me so much.
Explo definitely has a very different vibe than my world back at home. I go to an all-boys school, so getting a chance to be in a coed environment is really fun and exciting to me. And also, there’s so much culture and diversity at Explo. You look around the quad and just see so many different people from different backgrounds and cultures, which you really don’t see anywhere else.
After being here the past five sessions, I definitely believe that I’ve grown so much and have been shaped by Explo. It’s made me become a much more well-rounded and mature person because of all the things that it exposes you to. Just off the top of my head, I can think of things like the GSA club and racial and cultural equality club, which give an open space to discuss mature questions and topics that you don’t find elsewhere. Explo is special to me because it’s such a great mix of athletics, academics, and trips, and because of that, I think it opens new doors and gives you new opportunities. I definitely appreciate all Explo has to offer.
