Meet Eve from Massachusetts

Besides being excited to see old friends and meet new ones, Eve can't wait for Explo to help her change the world even more than she already has.

Ally Marcino

Eve is here for her fourth summer at Explo and her first at Wellesley. Besides being excited to be reunited with friends from past summers and meet new ones, she can't wait for Explo to help her change the world even more than she already has.

I like how Explo involves you. It’s not like school, where you just kind of sit in front of a teacher and they tell you things and you try to understand what they tell you. Here, they really help you understand and you get to interact with the material.

I don’t know what career path I’m going to choose yet, but I think no matter what, I want to make the world a better place.

Right now I’m taking Debate. Both of my parents are lawyers, so Debate is basically like the dinner table. Today, we learned about logical fallacies and the different kinds of them — how they have a place in the real world, but you’re not supposed to use them. They’re not productive — they usually just distract from what you’re trying to do. Debate is, when it comes down to it, just trying to get what you think is right to happen. It’s just generally good to have those skills, no matter what career you choose. You’ll always need to be able to fight for what you believe in. If you can’t fight for what you believe in, then you can’t change anything. If you can’t change anything, then you just have to deal, and I don’t think that’s what people should be doing. People should be trying to change things for the better.

I don’t know what career path I’m going to choose yet, but I think no matter what, I want to make the world a better place. I like to write, so I think maybe by including my debate skills and writing skills, somehow I’ll be able to choose a career path where I’ll be able to use those skills to benefit the world. The skills I’ve used at Explo have already helped me change the world a little. Last year, I learned a lot about leadership at Explo. This year at school, I started helping lead my school’s GSTA (Gay Straight Trans Alliance). It’s a new thing at my school this year and I helped start it. And next year especially, I’m going to help lead it. But I never would have done that if it hadn’t been for Explo.
