Charlie dreams of becoming a professional soccer player and this 13-year-old is not afraid to step out of his comfort zone by constantly trying out new things.

I would like to become a professional soccer player. I’ve been playing for a very long time now; I think I started playing when I was four or five years old. What makes soccer better than any other sports is that you have this big team of people always with you. There was one game that we were playing against 15- and 16-year-old kids — so much, much older people than we were. We lost the game by about 15 points; it was a very bad loss. But noone was really upset, we just thought it was funny that we were playing with those people and we had a good time.

With a team you’re never alone and you always have a group of people to support you and who you can share your experiences with, no matter what you’re going through. Also it’s not really an easy sport — dribbling with your feet as opposed to your hands is much harder. I’ve learned through playing soccer that whatever you do, as long as you practice a lot you always get better, and if you just try hard you will always keep improving.

I think there isn’t really a part of EXPLO that I don’t like. Everyone and everything is just super fun here and you can meet someone new or try something new everyday! For example, yesterday I had my first improv performance. Everyone could just run up on the stage and perform so I went out there and played a teenage girl who got mad because the Starbucks person messed up her order. Today I’m going to dance club because I haven’t danced before. I’m also taking a poker workshop because I haven’t really played poker before. There are so many things to learn here and I love it!
