At Explo this summer, I’m taking courses in digital photography and interior decorating. Even in the past few days, my courses have changed the way that I look at the world. Digital photography has really helped me look at life differently and find opportunities to photograph basically anything. We’ve been taking pictures of these random objects outside and that’s really forced me to find some cool perspectives or meaning to common things, which has helped me realize that I can go right out in my own backyard and take all these incredible pictures that I never would have thought of before.

Explo is changing how I think and interact with people and has helped me so much with making new friends. You really have to put yourself out there and be open, but also be yourself and you’ll definitely find so many people that you connect with. It’s such a happy and open environment that you can just randomly go up to a stranger and say hey, and they can turn out to be your best friend a few days later. My best strategy to making new friends is thinking of something that you both connect with. Like, I remember I was climbing up the huge hill on campus and someone was walking up next to me and we gave each other this look of being so happy that we finally made it up, and we instantly became friends.

I think Explo will help me connect to people even after the summer is done. It’s helped me understand how to make new friends and how to connect with people from all over the world, and I will definitely be using those skills even after Explo.
