Camelia is just about to enter the eighth grade, but she already has big plans — including one to get there. At EXPLO, she's exploring her dream of starting her own company through architecture and interior remodeling classes.

I would really like to attend Cornell University and then start working on building my own architecture and interior remodeling company. I want to base my company around affordable housing — to help people get a house at a better price, but with the same style and same things that every other person can have. Everyone deserves a fresh chance in everything, like having a nice house with all the supplies working, with electricity, and water.

When I was younger, I started watching a lot of shows about interior remodeling, like "Fixer Upper," then my dad agreed to buy me a 3D design app to be able to do it myself. Since then I’ve been spending a lot of my time remodeling houses or creating new ones. I really like a modern style with retro aspects. It’s important to be able to design because it’s better to remodel a house than start a brand new one; you can keep old elements while incorporating new ones so you can have both tastes in one house.

I’m getting good hands-on learning in my Interior Remodeling Design and Residential Architecture classes at EXPLO. Tomorrow in class we’re going to be presented six houses, and we can bid on each one for a better price. The instructor is going to explain the loan, the investment, the amount of money we have to use, and the style that our fake customers want. At the end of the session, “customers” will come and can buy our house.
