Meet Axl from New York

When Axl isn't playing a sport or on his bike, he can be found surrounded by friends.

When Axl isn't playing a sport or on his bike, he can be found surrounded by friends. This outgoing boy is learning how to make friends from all over the world here, and maybe even learning how to do their accents.

My sister and I are really close. I’m only a year and a half younger than she is. I’d say she’s one of my best friends; we play sports together and we talk about stuff. I play soccer and football and I bike. I have a mountain bike that I use in my back yard. The furthest I’ve biked is sixteen miles. I did that in Washington State with my grandparents — they’re really athletic.

My sister is the one who found out about Explo. She wanted to get involved in a different program than we had been in. The camp we went to was closer to home but I don’t mind being this far. It’s more of a chance to connect with new people and find new friends from a lot of different areas, even different countries. I tend to make friends pretty easily. I just like meeting new people and learning about them.

My favorite part about Explo so far is meeting new people. There are people here from all over and the accents are really cool. I like to do my own accents. I can do a Russian and Italian accent pretty well. But I’ve always wondered what America looks like from outside the country. I ask my new friends from different countries about that.
