Meet Aris from Massachusetts

Aris talks about how much he loves Explo

Ally Marcino

When he's not pretending to scale a wall so that he can look like Spiderman, Aris can always be found doing some other goofy pose or act around campus. Constantly surrounded by fellow students or staff who admire him for the incredible student he is, Aris has some fond thoughts as he looks back on his time at Explo this summer.

I like making friends and I like talking to people. I just like interacting with people in general. If I don’t have anyone to interact with, I feel like I’m missing out on friends I could be making. I like to go out there and be outgoing because it’s great to meet new people from places that I never thought I would meet people from. Explo is an amazing place to do just that. I speak French with some of the Lebanese students and I’m learning Turkish from the Turkish kids. It’s great! You get a lot of variety and it’s a lot of fun.

The classes are also tailored to what you want and the whole experience is just based around you. It makes your summer a lot of fun. I get to hang out with people I never thought I’d hang out with and take classes I’d never thought existed and do things I never thought I could do. I get to explore! In my Debate class, I took a journey into arguing for things that I didn’t believe in, which helps me understand what I have in store, of what I can do when I really put my mind to something. Being forced to do an activity like that has helped me learn how to adapt to a situation.

I also have a lot of fun with staff; they’re all great. Whether it’s posing in funny photos with them or cracking jokes, I have a great time. I love all the puns at Workshop Dismissals. It’s a lot of fun to be able to interact with the staff this way because they’re not that different from us.

We have about a week left and at Explo that’s still plenty of time to explore and try new things. Never restrict yourself with time. Five days is plenty of time to make new friends, do new things, and just explore in general.
