Meet Amanda from New Jersey

Amanda comes to EXPLO to explore subjects she can't find at home or at school. Whether it's restaurant management or improvisational acting, she loves the choice and variety EXPLO offers in courses, workshops, and activity periods.

An EXPLO at Wheaton alum, Ambassador Amanda envisions a future career in meteorology. She comes to EXPLO to try things she can't do at home or in school, from Restaurant Management and Improv Comedy to Chemistry and Cupcake Challenges.

I want to be a meteorologist someday. When I was younger I wanted to be able to see the future. As I got older I realized that meteorology is kind of a way of doing that. I’m always looking at not only what’s going on outside, but what will happen. I love being able to see what it’s going to look like tomorrow. I want to get really into the research and looking at the maps, collecting data, and creating a really informed vision of what the weather will look like.  However, I like to explore other topics while I’m at EXPLO.

I really think that I have so many opportunities to try something new here. I am a competitive dancer at home but I don’t dance here. I like to do things here that I can’t do at home. For example, I dance all year at home but I take Restaurant Management here because I can’t do that anywhere else. I think that’s one of the reasons why I keep coming back. It’s so much fun and it really inspires me to be the best I can be.

It’s so easy to explore your interests at EXPLO. I took a class on chemistry at Wheaton, but I have also taken a cupcake course and I did the Summer Spa Workshop. This year I’m doing Improv Comedy and Restaurant Management here at Wellesley. There is so much variety and so much to choose from. Even outside of the classes, they offer activities and clubs that allow me to explore even more of my interests.
