Meet Abby from the United Kingdom

Abby from the UK talks about Explo as a team sport

Ally Marcino

Abby is nothing short of a team player. From volleyball, to soccer, to cheerleading, this young athlete is always there to support the team. Now that she's at Explo, she's dicovered a new kind of team.

I moved from Massachusetts to the U.K. a few years ago. I love it, it’s been a great opportunity to travel and meet news friends! It’s fairly similar to coming to Explo as it is moving to a new place, I think! It’s a new environment and you have to make new friends, but everyone is so welcoming here that it’s easy. I love the opportunities to do Clubs & Leagues or do activities here because they give you such a wide range of options. I like to go to Party Games Club, or friendship bracelet-making activities, or we just had the Staff vs. Student Volleyball game that was really fun! The staff is always energetic. If you’re having a tired day their energy is contagious. I always know that if I have a question I could go to them.

I’m passionate about sports. I compete in a lot of different sports and I do some sport-based workshops here like soccer and volleyball. At home I compete in soccer, volleyball, track and field, swimming, and cheerleading. Soccer is my favorite though because it’s a team sport. I love the feeling of getting a goal, especially when there was a lot of teamwork behind it. It’s similar to Explo: you have to work with your Living Groups as a team sometimes. There’s definitely that team atmosphere here at Explo.

There’s also a lot of opportunity to try new things here. If you try something new and you’re not necessarily the best at it, no one is going to make you feel bad about it. I would recommend Explo to anyone not only because it an opportunity to meet new people but to try new things at the same time, in an atmosphere that’s designed to make you feel safe and comfortable with trying something new. I feel like I’ve gained so much from this chance I’ve had to come to Explo. I’ve gained new friends and a new confidence. Explo is just like a team sport, like soccer, where everyone is here to cheer you on.
