Meet Tiffany from Hong Kong

July 26, 2017

Ninth grader Tiffany is exploring her passions in Costume, Hair + Makeup Design, but she's discovered that her creativity can flourish beyond boundaries in the supportive environment she's found at EXPLO.

This is zombie makeup! Malu, my teacher, taught me how to do this to myself. This class definitely exceeded my expectations. There are so many cool supplies, and I didn't expect that there would be such an experienced teacher. During iTime Malu even took me to the art room and introduced to me her fashion designs. It was amazing seeing a person with the same interests that knows what you're thinking and what you want to do, but who also has experience that she can share to give you a clearer path.

My dream is to become a fashion designer, just like my mom and my dad. The people here are very supportive; they let you do anything you can think of and they encourage you to break out of your shell and think outside the box. I didn't even know I could draw cartoons until I came here. I thought they were my weakness, but then I came here and I discovered something new that I can do!

Being at EXPLO is inspiring my creativity. It’s like my brain doesn't know what it’s doing but it has some magical ideas and when I put it down on paper, I’m creating the art I like best. It helps that I have such close relationships with my living group and instructors, which helps me feel encouraged. I never thought I could make friends that easily. It feels amazing that you don't have to be afraid to be judged here. EXPLO really is a home away from home.
