David Healy: New Chair of Explo Board

We welcome David Healy as the new Chair of the Explo Board of Trustees. Healy brings a wealth of professional and personal experience in higher education to this position.

David Healy lives the Explo mission: he explores the world of people and ideas. Healy's 40 year career path in education began with positions at the College of William and Mary and the University of Maryland. He then served over 28 years as the Chief Financial Officer for Milton Academy and Goucher, Williams, and Mount Ida colleges. Quick with a pithy story to illustrate a point, David is as comfortable talking about finance as he is about the role of the liberal arts in the ever-changing educational landscape.

David retired in 2011 as the Chief Financial Officer at Mount Ida and was named Treasurer Emeritus by the Board of Trustees. He also taught business courses and served as both the interim Vice President of Development & Alumni Affairs and the interim President of the College. In recognition of his significant contributions to Mount Ida, the College launched the David Healy Lecture Series “to bring prominent business leaders to campus to speak with business students and the College community as a complement to the undergraduate and graduate curriculum of the School of Business.” Today, Healy stays connected by teaching in both the graduate and undergraduate business school programs at Mount Ida.

I'm thrilled David Healy will be leading the Board. His deep experience in higher education, at the most senior levels, makes him a wise advisor and a tested leader. David knows how high performing boards work, how well functioning management works, and how the two working together can really propel an institution forward. -Moira Kelly, President of Explo.

Healy’s career path is a family legacy. His father, George Healy, spent his own professional life as a professor and administrator at some of the country’s finest colleges and universities, including MIT, Bates, and the College of William & Mary.

Growing up on and around college and university campuses impacted David. In addition to influencing his professional pursuits, Healy’s considerable involvement in the world of education has provided him with an appreciation for environments of academic rigor, intellectual curiosity, and personal exploration.

David studied abroad and is also a seasoned world traveler. He is sensitive to, and sees the strength in, communities formed by students hailing from all over the globe. David's background, perspective, and various roles on Explo's Board over the past 8 years make him ideally suited to take on this role in Explo's leadership.

We're lucky to have David at the helm. It's an exciting time at Explo. Great things are on the horizon.
